Browser File Processing: What “Local” Really Means

Understand when a browser tool can process a file without uploading its contents.

Local processing is still software processing

A browser can read a file you explicitly select and transform it with JavaScript or WebAssembly. The file can remain on your device while the page code performs the work in memory.

The website itself still makes network requests

Loading the page, scripts, styles and fonts can create ordinary web requests. Local file processing specifically means the selected file content does not need to be posted to a remote conversion endpoint.

Heavy jobs still have limits

Browser memory and CPU limits matter. A large video or image-heavy PDF can consume substantial memory even when the workflow is private. Desktop browsers are usually better for heavy conversions.

Check each tool rather than assuming

A site can mix local and server tools. ConvertImgVidPDF labels heavy engines and documents the normal processing model so users can understand what happens before starting a job.
